According to Thanhnien on September 29, under the question of Vietnamese Health Minister Đào Hồng Lan, 306 children’s congress members unanimously raised their hands to support the ban on vapes and heated tobacco.
On September 29, at the second children’s congress simulation meeting, children’s congress members questioned the prevention and control of tobacco hazards.
Some children’s congress members questioned the Minister of Children’s Health Nguyễn Ngọc Mai An about the reasons and solutions for the increase in children’s use of vapes and heated tobacco products.
Minister of Children’s Health Nguyễn Ngọc Mai An pointed out that the Ministry of Health has proposed a ban on the sale and use of vapes and heated tobacco products in Vietnam.
The minister suggested that the education department should cooperate to strictly manage the use of vapes in schools, and at the same time, called on parents to pay close attention to their children’s use of money and extracurricular time management. She also asked the market supervision department to strengthen inspection and control to prevent the smuggling and illegal sale of vapes and heated tobacco products, especially illegal sales near schools. In addition, she also asked the public security department to seriously deal with the illegal acts of smuggling and selling vapes and heated tobacco products to children.
The Minister of Children’s Health said that the Ministry of Health has submitted a report on the current situation and harm of vapes and heated tobacco products to the Prime Minister, including international experience and suggestions for banning the production, sale, import and advertising of these products. Once the government agrees, the Ministry of Health will officially announce these contents.
After the questioning meeting, Minister of Health Đào Hồng Lan said that new tobacco products, especially heated tobacco and vapes, alcohol and drugs, seriously threaten children’s health and population quality. Therefore, the Ministry of Health’s proposal to ban vapes and heated tobacco products is completely correct, because more than 78.27% of the children participating in the survey agree with the ban.
