According to The Bangkok Insight on June 13, Thailand’s Minister of Health Somkid Thepsuthin invited relevant departments including Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health Oppas Garnkwng and Director of the Disease Control Bureau Thongchai Kiratihatayakon to attend the second National Tobacco Control Committee (NTCC) meeting chaired by him.
At the meeting, Somkid Thepsuthin announced that Thailand has officially joined the World Health Organization’s tobacco control convention, and then elaborated on four major protective measures to protect children from the harm of vapes:
1. Formulate/improve laws, regulations, and standards of ministries and other relevant agencies. Increase health protection issues for non-smokers, vapes and all forms of tobacco products, including strengthening law enforcement;
2. Support people to obtain smoking cessation drugs (cytisine) under the national medical insurance system;
3. Provide knowledge about the harms of cigarettes, vapes and all forms of tobacco products, understand the tobacco industry’s strategies, including supporting children and adolescents to play a role in the no-smoking movement, and vapes and all forms of tobacco products promote tobacco control at all levels;
4. Protect from tobacco industry exploitation.
Recently, Somkid Thepsuthin, Minister of Health of Thailand, announced four vape control measures to strengthen youth health protection at the second National Tobacco Control Committee (NTCC) meeting.
