The Commission said bus stops, zoos, rooftop bars and cafe terraces are among the places where all smoking should be banned. As part of its “anti-cancer plan,” the EU aims to reduce the current proportion of smokers in the total population from about 25% to less than 5% by 2040.
However, health policy is the competence of member states, which means that the Commission can only invite member states to implement its recommendations according to their own circumstances.
