According to Dailyrecord, Scottish Green Party MPs warned that vapes are still discarded into the environment on an almost “industrial scale” and a nationwide recycling program is imminent. Green Party MP Gillian Mackay called on the whole of the UK to act quickly to prevent an “environmental disaster” and ensure that vape products are recycled and processed instead of littered in public spaces.
A Scottish Green Party health spokesperson said she was disappointed that the promise of a broader cleanup action had not yet been fulfilled. The discarded vape campaign has raised awareness of the environmental pollution caused by disposable vapes. Such devices waste plastics, metals and chemicals, and pose a major fire risk in trash cans and waste treatment stations.
Gillian McKay said:
“We have proven that disposable vapes are not only a health risk, but also cause serious damage to the environment. But we have learned from the industry that up to 80% of vapes can be recycled depending on the brand. The process must be made as simple and effective as possible.”
“Some responsible retailers already provide vape disposal facilities in their stores, but it should not be voluntary, but mandatory and widespread. vapes are being discarded on an almost industrial scale, but we can encourage people to recycle these waste products correctly by making the recycling process simple and even through incentives.”
According to regulations, retailers must provide recycling services for disposable vapes, but research has found that many customers are unaware of the existence of these plans. Gillian McKay mentioned:
“The government should work closely with manufacturers, retailers and even local authorities to clean up our streets and parks at the source. Obviously, the public has the will to act and the political level has the determination to achieve this goal. So what is holding us back?”
At least 26 million disposable vapes are discarded in Scotland every year, and 8 disposable vapes are discarded every second across the UK, wasting enough lithium batteries each year to power 6,700 electric vehicles.
The local vape industry insists that it is taking steps to improve in-store recycling options, including better staff training, more in-store recycling points and increased promotion of these facilities. But a study by recycling experts last year found that only a third of professional retailers currently have vape recycling points, while supermarkets and convenience stores have almost no recycling facilities.
In the face of warnings from Scottish Green Party MPs about the environmental pollution of vapes, Veehoo vapes is determined to actively pay attention to, support and promote the sustainable recycling and treatment of vape products.
According to reports, at least 26 million disposable vapes are discarded in Scotland every year, a figure that makes us deeply worried. Veehoo vapes firmly believes that as a member of the vape industry, we have a responsibility to protect the environment, care for the earth, and ensure that our products will not become giants of environmental pollution.
Veehoo vapes welcomes the proposal for a national recycling plan put forward by Green Party MP Gillian McKay and is willing to actively pay attention to the developments. vape companies can work closely with the government, retailers and other stakeholders to promote recycling plans for disposable vapes and ensure that these products are properly handled rather than randomly discarded in the environment.
As a responsible vape brand, Veehoo will continue to improve our recycling services, pay attention to more convenient recycling facilities, and strengthen the promotion of the need for recycling to ensure that customers understand how to properly handle and recycle used vape products. We believe that through the cooperation between the government and the industry, a more mandatory and extensive recycling policy can be formulated to make the recycling process simple and efficient.
Veehoo vape recognizes the urgency of environmental protection. While seeking development, vape companies should strive to reduce the negative impact of disposable vapes on the environment and promote the vape industry to develop in a more sustainable direction. We will continue to work hard to contribute our strength to creating a clean and healthy environment, and work with all sectors of society to protect our common home.
