According to Business Wire on November 19, the Tholos Foundation recently released a survey by the international polling company IPSOS to discuss the reaction of Danish consumers to the proposal to restrict nicotine bags.

The survey showed that three-quarters of consumers use nicotine bags for health reasons, with the main purpose of reducing smoking or quitting smoking. Since nicotine bags were introduced to Denmark in 2018, the country’s smoking rate has dropped from 19% to 14% in 2023. The study also found that nearly 20% of nicotine bag users said they would smoke again if the ban was implemented.

The survey also found that the implementation of such a proposal could lead to a surge in black market sales, and about 50% of consumers expect to buy illegally. Most consumers do not support the proposed nicotine restrictions.

Tim Andrews, director of consumer affairs, said, “The evidence clearly shows that nicotine pouches help consumers quit smoking and reduce harm. The proposed nicotine restrictions will have a disastrous impact on public health, increase smoking rates and cause a flood of black markets.”

“80% of consumers believe that nicotine pouches help reduce smoking rates and believe that the government should support alternatives that are less harmful than smoking. This is a strong constituency. This clearly shows that the government should follow international best practices and guide through smart regulations based on research and evidence to limit sales to minors and prevent minors from trying, while still allowing adults to quit smoking.”

In September 2024, the Danish government published the “Draft Limits on Nicotine Content in Tobacco Alternatives”, proposing to limit the nicotine content of each pouch to 9 mg.

According to reports, three-quarters of consumers said that they use nicotine pouches mainly for health reasons and hope to reduce smoking or quit smoking. Alternative products similar to nicotine pouches, such as veehoo vapes, are also seen by some as an effective tool to help quit smoking.

After the Danish government proposed a proposal to limit the content of nicotine pouches to 9 mg, consumer opposition grew. Survey results show that about 50% of consumers said they would consider buying products illegally if the ban was implemented. This reaction highlights the importance consumers attach to choice and legal products.

As a traditional cigarette alternative, Veehoo vapes may be affected by such survey results. Consumer demand and views on nicotine products will directly affect the development direction and product strategy of the industry. In this context, it is particularly important for Veehoo vapes to pay attention to consumer feedback and industry dynamics.

The development of the nicotine replacement market requires balance and cooperation between the government, industry and consumers. How to support adults to quit smoking and choose safer alternatives while protecting public health is an issue that requires careful consideration. Veehoo vapes will continue to be committed to providing high-quality, compliant products to meet consumer needs and promote choices for quitting smoking and healthy living.
