According to Infomoney on November 12, the Brazilian Consumer Protection and Defense Foundation (Procon-SP) has officially sent a request to Meta (the parent company of Facebook and Instagram) to explain the advertising problems on the platform.
The agency asked for detailed information on the specific operations of these social media platforms in suspending advertisements involving vapes and vapes.
In a statement, Procon-SP pointed out that one of its goals is to require Meta to take “more effective measures” to prevent advertisements for such products from continuing to appear in front of users.
The agency also asked Meta to “provide documents on cooperation with the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa)” to prevent the appearance of related content.
Other requirements of Procon-SP for social media companies include:
- Update on the time frame for the suspension of accounts selling vapes;
- Provide a method to search and delete these advertisements;
- Clarify whether reporting is required or whether there is a search tool for self-identification of such advertisements;
- Provide data on deleted or blocked advertisements.
Procon-SP pointed out in the statement that “due to the high risk of these products to health and the prohibition of sale and use throughout the country, Procon-SP monitors the sale of ‘vapes’ in all possible physical and digital environments, and always seeks to dialogue and cooperate with suppliers and technology platforms in the process of combating the illegal trade of goods.”
