According to RTÉ, the Irish national broadcaster, on September 17, as part of its fight against secondhand smoke, the EU called on member states to ban smoking and vaping in many outdoor places such as playgrounds, swimming pools and restaurant terraces.

In a non-binding recommendation, the European Commission said that expanding the smoke-free environment policy will better protect public health, especially the health of children.

The Commission urged the 27 EU member states to expand existing restrictions on cigarettes to cover other new tobacco products such as vapes and heated tobacco.

“These products are increasingly reaching very young users,” said Stella Kyriakides, the EU Health Commissioner. “We have a responsibility to protect our citizens, especially children and young people, from harmful smoke and emissions.”

The Commission said bus stops, zoos, rooftop bars and cafe terraces are among the places where all smoking should be banned. As part of its “anti-cancer plan,” the EU aims to reduce the current proportion of smokers in the total population from about 25% to less than 5% by 2040.

However, health policy is the competence of member states, which means that the Commission can only invite member states to implement its recommendations according to their own circumstances.

For brands like Veehoo, this may bring some new challenges and opportunities.

According to reports, a non-binding recommendation of the European Commission urged member states to expand the scope of existing cigarette restrictions to cover new tobacco products such as vapes and heated tobacco. The move is aimed at better protecting public health, especially the health of children, as these products are increasingly exposed to very young users.

For vape brands such as Veehoo, this means that they may face more regulation and restrictions. In his statement, the EU Health Commissioner emphasized the responsibility to protect citizens, especially children and young people, from the effects of harmful smoke and emissions. This requires the vape industry to pay more attention to the safety of products and the impact on public health.

The EU’s goal is to reduce the proportion of smoking population from the current 25% to less than 5% by 2040. This will prompt member states to take stricter measures to reduce smoking rates, including limiting the scope of smoking venues.

For Veehoo and other vape brands, this may bring some challenges to the sales and marketing strategies of products. Brands need to pay close attention to the regulatory changes in EU countries and adjust product strategies to comply with new restrictions and requirements. At the same time, they also need to actively pay attention to the relevant policy-making process to ensure the sustainable development of the industry and the protection of public health.

In this new policy environment, Veehoo vapes and other vape brands need to respond flexibly, maintain product innovation and comply with regulatory requirements, so as to be invincible in future competition. This will also be a new milestone in the continuous development of the vape industry, and all parties in the industry need to work together to adapt to this change.
